I am a Tng Sua Lang

I am a China Man
I come from Kampung Sembawang
I play my guitar (Chinese version)
From morning to afternoon
Now is half past one
I go for my lunch Curry and chicken rice
Makes my stomach filled up
After my lunch I go for a walk
Up and down Geylang
To watch girls
Then I saw a lorry
He ask me to move backwards
When I go backwards
I fell into the drain

Thanks for the effective translation James. I'll post the actual lyrics of the song too.

He was truly in his elements when it comes to that. Philip makes a great pom chak chak partner too.

Hi. I found your blog when I went searching for the "lang ting tang" song (as my dad calls it). He has been singing snatches of it my entire childhood, and it has been a great gift for him to hear the entire song. I was wondering if you are willing to perform at our neighbourhood's annual dinner coming up in Dec, as most of the residents are retirees who will appreciate the songs of the 50s and 60s. Thanks!

Hi Grandpa Yip,

This is a funny song! During the late 60’s we had a contestant in the Singapore Talent Time who sang his own composition. There were several verses in his song, each addressed to the ladies of our local ethnic groups. I can only remember one verse:

Around the corner, under a tree
A Malay lady in love with me
She said “Tuan, apa macham?”
Since that blinking day she stole my sama blachan.

It was so funny! The other verses were for Chinese, Indian and Eurasian ladies. Unfortunately, in spite of his creativeness, he didn’t survive that round.
